Slater’s Hair Mitzvah
Do you have an 8 inch ponytail lying around in your house? Or do you want to donate hair to children with cancer? If that ponytail is in good condition, the Children With Hair Loss program can take that pony and make a wig for a child with cancer.
I am collecting these ponytails for my mitzvah project. When I become a bat-mitzvah, I have to complete a project that is a mitzvah, or good deed. I want to collect ponytails for children with cancer.
If you want to donate a pony or monetary donation, please send it/them (in a plastic bag if it’s a ponytail) to 2400 E Arizona Biltmore #1200 Phoenix AZ, 85016-2109 United States along with the forms from their website, childrenwithhairloss.us

That's the poster.

At my temple, I'm going to talk about my mitzvah project to a bunch of people. yay?

As the day (the dreaded day) of cutting off my hair comes, I'm slowly becoming more okay with it, BUT I still like long hair. Once I had a dream where my hair shorter and I looked GOOD *strikes sassy pose* that might have been because it was a lot thicker too.
ALSO when I made that video it proved that I slay short hair. EXCEPT I don't think it will be as short as any of those two things.

Last week, I wrote a lot of thank you notes, but I ran out of stationary. I went out of town this weekend, so I did not send them. Still, expect cards soon.

One of our family friend's kids cut off her hair, so now I have 22 ponytails.

We measured my hair this weekend, and my hair will be 2-3 inches longer than last time I did this.
(Cue embarrassing picture of my chin-length hair).

But that was the first day I got it cut so it looked *kind of* good.

This what it looked like on a normal day, going different directions, crazily parted bangs, me making an ugly face, the us(ual).

I am not going to get bangs because I learn from my mistakes*, and this is clearly one of them.

*usually*

*sometimes

BUT I'm thinking of getting sideswept bangs, but they're sort of annoying, so IDK.

It's fall break, but it's the last day, and I'm crying because I don't want togo back to school.

My Mom's Hair and Quilts

Last Tuesday I cut my mom's hair off, and now it's super short.
It used to be like this,

but now it's like this.
Here is this video of me cutting it.

I was really sad that all her hair was coming off, but she was super excited. It's so weird her having short hair, but I'll get used to it. I think she cut off 13 inches, which is obviously a lot.

I got some ponytails (not counting my mom's) this week, and now I have 21 ponytails.

ALSO I'm going to make a quilt for Gracie's Mitzvah project

These are the materials I'm doing

I think I'm going to cut red hearts and sew them on to the black and white fabric. Then, I'll sew those squares together.

So on Tuesday I'm cutting my moms hair off.       o_o       0_0       O_O

ya feel?

I've done it before though. This summer, I cut my aunt's hair.

I called CWHL on Thursday, and they sent me a package with a bunch of information.
There are:
-brochures
-posters
-a thing with info about CWHL
-a notepad (sort of) with information about the donor on it except it needs to be filled out
-one for monetary donations

But I don't really know what I'll do with some of those, but I can ask my mom.

I'm running out of ideas for blog posts, so someone please help. (AKA tell me what you want me to write about)

I was going to put the video of me cutting my aunt's hair, BUT my computer is being a buttsack SO I CAN'T POST THE VIDEO.

Peace out!

Mitzvah Update

When I cut my hair in February it will probably be just above my shoulders (yay! I thought it would've been shorter). I want to dye my hair, so it will look similar to this:
(I drew that)
I'm really excited to dye my hair because I've wanted to dye my hair for a long time. Also, I really don't want my hair to be short again, but I'm still going to do it because
A) It will grow back
B) It's a nice thing to do and
C) I'm trying to be a nice person

I might get my makeup done for my party. I'm really excited because the only time I've ever gotten a makeover like that, I was 7, and it was for my aunt's wedding.

These are all the ponytails I've collected so far, and fun fact, I'm wearing that shirt right now.

See?
I made it for the 4th of July, and I love it.
Anyway, thank you for all the ponytails and please keep them coming. I'm glad I can help others out. Peace!

Different Hair Cuts

While thinking about how I'm cutting my hair in February, I've been looking at hair cuts I like for short hair. Nobody HAS to do these exact hair cuts, they are just some that I like.

Shoulder Length Hair:

Chin Length Hair:

Pixie Cut:

I'm pretty sure my hair is going to be chin length when I cut it in February, and it will probably end up something like Ginnifer Goodwin's. I can use texturizing spray to get it wavy like hers.

Bat-Mitzvah Progress

Hey there! Today I started my tutoring for my bat mitzvah. I started reading my Torah portion. A Torah is a scroll with historical/Biblical Jewish stories on it in Hebrew. I also created a pinterest board for my bat mitzvah, but so far I only have tallit I like in it. Here are some pins in the board:

Here is my board if you want to see the rest of it:

Some of the tallit are too expensive, but I still like them.

We're having a boho chic themed party for our bat-mitzvah party, and I will slay it!
killed it. succeeded in something amazing.
Miley's new album slayed

btw.

I'm really excited for it, and I also have a pinterest board for the party.

I think I'm going to try a hairstyle like this for the party since my hair will be shorter.

And I have a skirt I'm going to wear with leggings or another skirt with it because it's lace.

New Program Found!

Hello Everybody!
Recently, I found a new program that is called Children with Hair Loss. This program is basically a mix of Pantene's Beautiful Lengths and Locks of Love. I will be donating to CWHL instead of LoL and PBL. Here are the requirements:

  • Hair should be at least 8 inches in length or longer is preferred.
  • Hair must be clean and dry, pony-tailed and/or braided (this keeps the hair in one direction).
  • Place rubberband or pony tail holder on each end.
  • Non-chemically treated hair is preferred (but any hair in good condition will be accepted).
  • Gray hair is accepted.
  • Print hair donation form.
  • Place donation form and hair in ziplock bag and mail to Children with Hair Loss

Instead of mailing to CWHL please mail t
2400 East Arizona Biltmore Circle
Suite 1200
Phoenix, AZ  85016

For the donation form, here is a link to the form:

So far I have 12 ponytails, but I am not sure how many ponytails go into a wig. I hope to see more ponytails coming my way. Thank you to everyone that has donated.

Updates on Project

While thinking about my project, I have come up with what success looks like to me. I would like to be able to create 10 wigs in all. Each wig takes 6-15 ponytails, so I would like to collect 60-150 ponytails. So far I have about 10 ponytails. It would be amazing if I could reach my goal by next February.

It turns out that Locks of Love takes dyed hair, so I will also donate to Locks of Love if you have dyed hair but you want to donate.

The requirements for Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program are as follows:
-no chemical dye in the hair
        -at least 8 inches long
-only 5% gray hairs can be in the hair donated

The requirements set for the dyes and colors of hair were set because if the hair has dye or gray color, the dye used when the wigs are colored will be affected differently with unnaturally colored hair or gray hair.

The requirements for Locks of Love are as follows:
-dyed hair is ok as long as it was not bleached before the dyeing process
-layered hair is fine if the longest layer is at least 10 inches
        -at least 10 inches long
-gray is ok, but it will be sold for manufacturing costs

If you do not have any hair to donate, you could always send a monetary donation. Locks of Love accepts checks, but there is no information that I can find about money donations to PBL.
